DPS is hosting a press conference on the mass shooting at the Allen Mall on Tuesday

The Texas Department of Public Safety is hosting a press conference on the Allen Mall mass shooting on Tuesday afternoon.

The press conference is expected to start at 2.00pm. According to an email from the agency, the FBI and Allen Police will also be in attendance.

It will be the first time authorities have briefed the public since Saturday, when, in two press conferences – opportunities for the media to ask for details – officials refused to answer questions. In the days following the shooting, most of the details about the gunman and his motives came from leaks, which critics say allowed confusion and misinformation to spread.

The 3:30 p.m. Saturday shooting killed eight people and injured seven others at the Allen Premium Outlets in the 800 block of West Stacy Road near US Highway 75. Seven people were reported dead at the scene, including the gunman, who was shot by a policeman. Two others died in hospital.

The DPS, which took over the investigation from local police, has since confirmed only the gunman’s name, age and city of residence, as well as a list of victims on Monday, ranging in age from 3 to 37.
