SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas — The U.S. Coast Guard on Sunday suspended its search for a 19-year-old man who was reported missing after he was last seen swimming near Surfside Beach Friday night.

Editor’s Note: The video above was posted before the search was suspended.

The decision comes after the Coast Guard said it searched about 305 square miles in a total of 25 hours.

DeAngelo Phillip Jackson, 19, of Navasota, is described as 6 feet 3 inches tall and wore black shorts with an orange stripe around the waist and no shirt.

“The decision to suspend the search is never easy, but we remain ready to resume the operation should new information arise,” said Lieutenant General Staff Officer Melissa Brizzi, command duty officer, Sector Houston-Galveston. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and we hope they find comfort and strength during this difficult time.”

THE United States Coast Guard contributed boat crews and a helicopter to the search along with the Surfside Police Department.

They said Jackson was reported swept away by a wave.

“Family and friends are desperate for DeAngelo and the search is ongoing,” Texas EquuSearch said in a Facebook post. “Please keep DeAngelo and his parents in your prayers.”

“Prayers please help,” said a family member. “We don’t know where it is in that water.”

“Our cousin is out there in the water, he’s alone.”
