HCSO: Man killed in hit-and-run accident also hit Deputy in eastern Harris County
Investigators are looking for the surveillance footage that captured the initial crash. They also have debris from the truck that left the scene.
HOUSTON—A The man died after being hit by two vehiclesincluding a deputy from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday on Wallisville Road near Normandy Street in eastern Harris County.
Deputies said a man was standing in the road when a black lorry crashed into the man. The driver of the truck took off after hitting him. Witnesses then flagged a nearby officer for help who accidentally punched the man again. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The black truck, after hitting the pedestrian, was overrun into the westbound traffic lanes,” said HCSO Major Susan Cotter. “The deputy… then hit the pedestrian, who was already lying on the roadway.”
Authorities aren’t sure whether the original crash or the deputy’s vehicle ultimately killed the man. It is also unclear why the man was in the middle of the road.
Meanwhile, investigators said they are seeking surveillance footage of the original crash to help identify the truck that started the crash.
