John Quinones inducted into the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America Hall of Fame
SAN ANTONIO – John Quiñones, broadcaster and award-winning correspondent for ABC News, was inducted into the 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame.
According to a press release, the organization introduced Quiñones last week at its 117th annual National Conference in Orlando.
At the event, he was honored for his significant accomplishments and continued commitment to supporting the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America.
The organization praised Quiñones for continuing to dedicate himself to instilling confidence in young people and often holding motivational talks in high schools.
The press release also mentions how he has shed light on some of the world’s most important issues during his nearly 40 years at ABC News, including his work as the creator and host of the network’s hidden camera television series What Would You Do? people to stand up to everyday injustices, the press release said.
“I am honored to induct John Quinones into our Alumni Hall of Fame along with this exceptional group of top industry professionals,” said Jim Clark, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “We believe there is no limit to all the youth of the club and there is no greater proof than the people we are honored to have in our family of boys and girls club alumni. We hope that the wonderful stories of recruits, club experience, and personal and professional achievements will inspire young people to believe that any goal is achievable.”
As an alumnus, Quiñones credits most of his success at the Calderon Clubhouse on San Antonio’s West Side.
The staff encouraged Quiñones, who was embarrassed to speak English, to take part in the club’s talent show and later recommended him for a very selective program that eventually encouraged him to complete two degrees and build his legacy as a television journalist.
“I cannot overemphasize the importance of my boys and girls club in helping me become who I am today,” Quiñones said. “Without the dedication of the Club’s dedicated staff who saw the potential I couldn’t see in myself, I would never have set foot on this talent show stage, let alone spent decades on a major broadcast network in front of millions of people. “.
Earlier this year, the San Antonio Boys and Girls Club recognized Quiñones with the prestigious Youth Champion award.
