Man accused of robbing armored truck in Converse faces additional drug possession charges
SAN ANTONIO – A man who was previously charged with robbing an armored truck in Converse is now charged with drug possession after police allegedly found large amounts of marijuana and methamphetamines in ice boxes in the house where he lived.
Maurice Mercado, 23, was arrested for drug possession on Monday afternoon after police said they found more than 8 pounds of marijuana and 1,657 multicolored methamphetamine-positive pills in various refrigerators in the attic of the house where Mercardo was staying with his girl. located in the 1400 block of Beverly Ann Drive.
Records show that Mercado was on bail on a theft charge in connection with his alleged involvement in an armored truck robbery that took place in a Converse AutoZone parking lot on December 29, 2022.
According to the arrest warrant, the drugs were found in the house where Mercado was staying when police searched the house for money seized during the robbery of the armored truck.
During the search, police also found more than $18,000 in cash in Mercado’s bedroom.
Court records show Mercado’s bail is set at a total of $50,000 for possession of marijuana weighing between 5 and 50 pounds and possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams.
