San Antonio celebrates corn with the “Pueblos del Mais” celebration in May.

SAN ANTONIO – The city of San Antonio is celebrating all things corn this weekend with the second annual Pueblos del Mais.

Cooking demonstrations, corn tastings, and corn specialties will be held at select participating San Antonio restaurants.

San Antonio Joins Three Other UNESCO Creative Cities in Maize Celebration – Tucson, Arizona; Merida, Mexico; and Puebla, Mexico.

UNESCO stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations. San Antonio is a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

“Maize is considered part of a heritage in our culture and history and links the rich traditions of San Antonio to our creative cities,” said Colleen Swain, director of the San Antonio World Heritage Office, which oversees the UNESCO designation of a Creative City of Gastronomy. in San Antonio. “Pueblos del Mais is an opportunity for residents and visitors to San Antonio to touch this history, learn about the role of corn in our ancestors’ food, and explore it creatively.”

From Friday 17:30-20:30“Maiz Showcase in Pearl” will showcase live cooking and invite chefs from Tucson and Merida, Mexico.

Demonstrations will take place on an outdoor grill at the Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio.

Saturday, May 13

From noon to 15:00 on SaturdayChef Johnny Hernandez and Guest Chefs will prepare the Taste of Pueblos del Mais at Casa Hernan, located at 411 E Cevallos St. Ticket event includes corn tasting, desserts and cocktails.
