The video shows how the policeman jumps from the bridge to avoid getting hit by a patrol car
A Colorado State Patrol (CSP) soldier jumped off a bridge to avoid colliding with his own patrol car over the weekend after a suspected drunk driver crashed into the soldier’s car.
Dashcam video shows Trooper Kevin Bagley jumping over a railing before falling 30 feet onto a riverbank early Saturday morning on Interstate 270 in Adams County, Colorado.
CSP officials said the troopers were on the Interstate responding to the crash when two consecutive crashes occurred. First, the jeep crashed into the side of a parked, unoccupied CSP cruiser at high speed. The driver of the jeep was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Approximately 45 minutes after the Jeep crash, another driver crashed into the scene, speeding.
CSP officials told Storyful that the driver in the latest crash hit several traffic cones in the right lane that were positioned to warn oncoming traffic.
The driver, Cesar Ayala Manriquez, then swerved to avoid oncoming traffic, while Bagley jumped back over the railing to avoid being hit.
Bagley suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was discharged from the hospital the day after the accident, according to CSP officials.
Manriquez sustained injuries during the accident and was also taken to the hospital and discharged shortly thereafter. He has been charged with assault and driving under the influence of alcohol.
At a press conference on Monday, CSP chief Matthew Packard said CSP patrol cars had been hit by drivers 12 times this year.
