SAN ANTONIO – The 2023 XFL football season will end with the last game of the championship, which will take place on Saturday at the Alamodome.

The championship game is the first since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took over the league.
Both teams in the game were previously tied at the Alamodome, with Arlington losing 15-9 to San Antonio and the Defensives surviving the Brahmas 29-28 due to a missed field goal. at the last second.
Bob Stoops of Arlington, former head coach at the University of Oklahoma, coaches at the Alamodome with a 3-0 all-time record. He leads the Renegades, who had their highest-scoring game of the season in the April 29 division championship win over Houston, recording their biggest margin of victory.
After a rocky start, the Defenders took a 16-point win at Audi Field on April 30 to advance to the championship game. DC’s Reggie Barlow was named XFL Coach of the Year after leading the team to a 9-1 regular season record and quarterback Jordan Taamu was named XFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Johnson said during an early-season press conference that the city of San Antonio had always been considered a potential championship venue, as he was familiar with the city.
In August 2020, Johnson announced that he, his business partner/ex-wife Dani Garcia, and RedBird Capital Partners had acquired XFL for $15 million. The sale comes after the league suspended its previous season during the COVID-19 pandemic and filed for bankruptcy.
During the announcement, XFL co-owner Jerry Cardinale said that San Antonio is “a phenomenal city for football.”
“As we said, this is a diverse city. He represents all the values and ideals that we stand for as a league, as part of a footballing nation. So we carried on with that. It was an easy decision,” Cardinale said.
