WATCH LIVE: State Senator Roland Gutierrez and Uvalde families to hold conference over Allen shooting

Austin — State Senator Roland Gutierrez and the families of the victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting will hold a press conference on Monday morning regarding the Allen mass shooting.

Uvalde’s Gutierrez is expected to address gun violence in Texas and gun safety laws, the press release said.

On Saturday afternoon, a 33-year-old gunman opened fire on shoppers at the Allen Mall, killing eight people. The shooter was shot dead by a police officer who happened to be near the scene.

Police said several weapons were found at the scene, including an AR-15 type rifle and a handgun. They are investigating whether the shooter had any interest in white supremacy.

The Allen shooting comes nearly a year after an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalda, killing 19 students and two teachers.

“We cannot allow tragedies like today’s to continue,” Gutierrez said Saturday after the shooting in Allen. “We cannot allow this to become a reality for our families and loved ones.”

He added that Americans “will see more and more of these incidents” until common sense gun laws are passed.

Gutierrez will be joined by Senate Democratic Caucus Carol Alvarado, Senate Senator Sarah Eckhardt and the Uvalde family at his press conference on Monday.

It’s scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Texas Capitol. Watch the live stream in the video player above. There may be delays, if there is no live broadcast, check back later.
